10,000 Advance Orders for 2010 Camaro

General Motors has already taken deposits on 10,000 advance orders for the new Chevrolet Camaro. Orders started coming in for the next generation Camaro this past October. However, supplier problems may cause delivery delays.Cadence Innovation, the interior parts supplier for the Camaro, is in bankruptcy. Cadence is simultaneously liquidating their own equipment while waiting for a white knight to buy them out.As is standard practice, GM handed over their own machinery and raw materials to Cadence, who would then make the Camaro interiors. Now that Cadence is bankrupt, the company is hesitant to return the equipment to GM. Cadence sees the Camaro deal as being a key feature to sell the company, and returning the equipment ends the partnership.GM claims they need the equipment by January 12, or Camaro production will stall.A delay could be enough for customers to cancel their orders, which would be damaging to the Big 3 automaker's struggle for survival.Interestingly, the majority of orders is for the Chevy Camaro with a 300 horsepower V6 engine, as opposed to the V8 or SS models, according to GM North America marketing chief Mark LaNeve."We are getting a considerable amount of V-6 orders," LaNeve said. He believes new Camaro customers are "people who are just interested in a very stylish car that gets pretty good fuel economy. It’s kind of a sign of the times.”Source: Autonews.com (sub req)

THE NEW JAGUAR XF DIESEL S

"The new XF V6 Diesel S - combining superb performance and excellent fuel economy - sets the pace with acceleration from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, a maximum speed of 155mph, yet delivers an average fuel consumption of 42mpg and CO2 emissions of 179g/km: Truly the best of both worlds!"Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director, Jaguar Cars
THE NEW XF DIESEL S - In Brief
The most advanced, powerful and efficient Jaguar diesel ever
New 275PS high-performance XF Diesel S featuring Jaguar's new AJ-V6D Gen III S 3.0-litre diesel engine delivering a massive 600Nm of torque
0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds, 50-70mph in just 3.2 seconds and a maximum speed of 155mph, yet combined fuel economy of 42.0mpg - 12 percent better than the acclaimed 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine
Emits just 179g/km - a 10 percent reduction in CO2. Conforms to EU5 emission regulations using conventional exhaust after-treatment
33 percent more powerful and 61 percent more torque from 1500rpm than the 2.7-litre V6 diesel
"With CO2 emissions of 179g/km, 42mpg average fuel economy and 0-60mph acceleration in 5.9 seconds, this is another great example of Jaguar delivering unrivalled performance while at the same time taking the level of refinement in diesel engines to a whole new level."Mick Mohan, Jaguar Programmes Director
When it was introduced last year, the XF was recognised as a dramatic expression of a bold new Jaguar design language. It also soon became apparent that here was a car where the driving experience exceeded the expectations created by the striking appearance. Now, the new XF Diesel S takes this driving experience to new levels, shifting the balance even further towards dynamic performance while still retaining the XF's core values as a refined and luxurious sports saloon.
Distinguished by 19 inch wheels, an aerodynamic boot lid spoiler and discreet 'S' badging, the car that defines Jaguar sporting luxury is even better for the 2010 model year, with a stunning new high-performance diesel. Powered by a 275PS engine, the Diesel S gives the XF outstanding levels of performance, accelerating from 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds, 1.8 seconds quicker than the excellent 2.7-litre model. In-gear acceleration is equally impressive, with a 50-70mph time of just 3.2 seconds. Maximum speed is electronically limited to 155mph.
Featuring parallel sequential turbochargers to help deliver the high levels of power and torque seamlessly and with effortless flexibility, this engine is perfectly matched to Jaguar's sophisticated six-speed ZF 6HP28 automatic transmission.
"The new parallel sequential turbocharger system on our new V6 diesel delivers V8 levels of performance from very low revs. It's a power unit that offers superb flexibility and remarkably low fuel consumption and emissions, while building on the refinement that has become a trademark of our Jaguar diesel engines."Ron Lee, Group Chief Engineer, Powertrain
There is an equally impressive 240PS version of the new 3.0-litre engine available too, which produces 16 percent more power and a 15 percent increase in torque over the 2.7-litre diesel, allowing the XF to reach 60mph in 6.7 seconds. Its 50-70mph time of just 3.7 seconds is only fractionally slower than the 275PS Diesel S model. Maximum speed is 149mph. And like the 275PS engine, these great performance leaps are achieved with combined average fuel consumption of 42.0mpg - an improvement on the 2.7-litre diesel of over 10 percent - and a CO2 emissions rating of only 179g/km.
There are also significant trim and specification changes - including many new features - and the introduction of a new luxurious Portfolio derivative as part of the core range. For Jaguar and the new 2010 model year XF, the high-performance diesel has truly arrived.
The acclaimed XF 2.7 Diesel has won several accolades, including in the UK What Car magazine's 'Diesel Car of the Year' and 'Car of the Year', What Diesel magazine's 'Diesel Car of the Year' and the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers' Best Diesel of 2008.
The new AJ-V6D Gen III engine - In detail
Drawing on the experience gained in designing the original, acclaimed 2.7-litre engine, the new 3.0-litre AJ-V6D Gen III diesels demonstrate that it is possible to deliver improved performance, while reducing CO2 emissions and fuel economy. In the XF, the new engine produces 10 percent less CO2 than the 2.7-litre, while power has increased by 33 percent in Diesel S guise. As well as tackling CO2, the new 3.0-litre engines meet the forthcoming EU5 regulations, due to come into force at the start of 2011. And these great performance leaps are achieved with combined average fuel consumption in both models of 42.0mpg - an improvement on the 2.7-litre engine of 12 percent.
Twin-turbos - maximum efficiency, instant response
A key feature of the new engine is the unique, parallel sequential turbocharger system, the first of its type to be fitted to a V-engine anywhere in the world. Delivering high torque throughout the entire engine rev range, improved throttle response and low CO2 emissions, the twin-turbochargers work sequentially to deliver unrivalled response and best-in-class torque - an impressive 61 percent more than the 2.7-litre diesel from 1500rpm - while packing a huge punch at higher engine speeds.
For most day-to-day driving, including motorway cruising, a responsive, variable-geometry primary turbocharger does all the work, while the smaller, fixed-geometry, secondary turbo is dormant, saving energy and improving efficiency. When the engine revs climb above 2800rpm, the secondary turbo is brought on line within 300 milliseconds, smoothly and seamlessly boosting the engine output with no discernible turbo-lag or power-step.
Driving a turbocharger requires pressure from the exhaust, creating pumping losses in the engine and increasing fuel consumption. To alleviate this, valves under the control of the engine management system isolate the secondary turbocharger both from the exhaust stream and the engine inlet tract when it is not required.
Some twin-turbo systems rely on a smaller turbo for primary use, only using a larger turbo when higher power is required. Though effective, this has the disadvantage of raised exhaust pressure and increased pumping losses. The Jaguar system uses a larger, variable-geometry turbocharger more of the time, which not only reduces pumping losses, but also improves fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Jaguar engineers particularly focussed on the issue of turbocharger 'lag' at low engine speeds. The new AJ-V6D Gen III 3.0-litre diesels significantly out-perform their rivals by delivering 500Nm of torque in only 500 milliseconds from idle.
Third-generation commonrail
A new commonrail fuel-injection system delivers up to five injections on each cycle at a pressure of 2000bar. Each injector tip is perforated by seven holes through which finely atomised fuel is sprayed into the cylinders. The high-pressure injection increases power, improves economy and reduces both CO2 and particulate emissions. New, third-generation high-speed piezo injectors allow up to five precise injection events during each combustion cycle, minimising engine combustion noise.
Piezo crystal 'packs' operate each injector by expanding when an electric current is passed through them. They react virtually instantaneously but can make a distinctive click when fired, which can add to diesel engine noise at idle. The crystals in Jaguar's new injectors are fitted nearer the tip, meaning they are mounted deeper inside the engine providing better sound insulation and quieter operation.
Another new feature of the third-generation fuel-injection system is the metering mode. Traditional diesel commonrail fuel pumps oversupply the injectors, with the surplus being returned to the fuel tank. During this process, fuel temperature increases and cooling it again consumes considerable amounts of energy. In metering mode, the pump delivers fuel to the injectors only at the rate required. Consequentially, there is no rise in fuel temperature and no wasted energy.
Compact, light and clean
The two cylinder heads, with four valves per cylinder, are made from aluminium and the cylinder block is made from compact graphite iron (CGI). The higher tensile strength of CGI makes it possible to cast a smaller block; some 80mm shorter than a conventional 'grey' cast iron equivalent.
The new, water-cooled, exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR), important for reducing pumping losses and emissions of NOx in a diesel engine, is more efficient and consumes less power than the 2.7-litre unit. The valves that allow exhaust gas into the system are located on the 'hot side' of the engine nearest the exhaust manifolds; these valves never cool while the engine is running, so there is no condensation of combustion deposits which occurs on engines fitted with 'cold side' valves, hence the EGR system always works at maximum efficiency. Since the EGR cooling is so effective, exhaust gasses can bypass the system and return to the exhaust pipes, allowing faster engine warm-up from start-up and reducing emissions still further.
EU5 emissions regulations have been achieved ahead of the 2011 legislative timetable using conventional diesel oxidation catalysts and diesel particulate filters (DPFs). NOx levels are reduced at source through the combustion system design, the addition of the new commonrail injection system and the new EGR system with by-pass. As a result, specialised NOx exhaust after-treatment is unnecessary, avoiding a potential cost and the need to use additional precious metals in the exhaust system.
Remarkably quiet for a diesel
The CGI cylinder block and new piezo injectors reduce combustion noise in the engine. Multiple, precise injections of fuel on the combustion stroke also reduce combustion noise and all engine covers including camshaft covers, front covers and the sump have been optimised to subdue radiated noise. Engine enclosures have been ribbed to minimise radiated noise and the sump pan is manufactured from sound deadening steel (SDS), comprising a polymer layer sandwiched between two layers of steel.
Internal friction, a major contributor to unnecessary fuel consumption, has been addressed by careful optimisation of the crankshaft, valves and pistons. All these features combine to make the new Jaguar AJ-V6D Gen III engines amongst the quietest premium diesels on the market.
A major step forward
With its parallel sequential turbocharger system, third-generation commonrail fuel injection system and fully optimised EGR system, the new 3.0-litre AJ-V6D Gen III diesel sets new class standards when it comes to power, response and refinement in the premium diesel segment.
"The new XF challenges the rules and redefines Jaguar sporting luxury. Our designers and engineers have worked together to develop elegant, inspired solutions to complex technical challenges. It's a simple but very effective philosophy and the result is great new products like the new 3.0-litre diesel XF." Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director, Jaguar Cars

McLaren SLR Stirling Moss

PRESS RELEASE:
Stuttgart– Mercedes-Benz and McLaren are adding the crowning glory to the model family of their highly successful SLR super sports car with a new, uncompromisingly spectacular car. There is neither a roof nor a windscreen to separate the driver and passenger from the outside world; they enjoy unadulterated high-speed excitement with all the attributes of a speedster. The new SLR Stirling Moss is also characterised by the most sophisticated technology and a breathtaking design which reinterprets the SLR legend. With 478 kW/650 hp the SLR Stirling Moss accelerates its V8 supercharged engine from standstill to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h – no other series-production car is at the same time so open and so fast. This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a legitimate bearer of the name of the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars from victory to victory during the 1950s.The exclusive SLR Stirling Moss rounds off the current SLR family and is limited to 75 units. It is priced at 750,000 euros. The SLR Roadster will cease to be manufactured at the end of May 2009 as planned, and production of the SLR Stirling Moss will commence in June 2009.Three letters are all it takes to make car fans' hearts beat faster: SLR. In the 1950s the Mercedes-Benz SLR 300 celebrated victory after victory. It won the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio as well as the Tourist Trophy. It was driven by the stars of the time: Juan Manual Fangio and Karl Kling – and, first and foremost, by the British racing driver Stirling Moss. At ten hours, seven minutes and 48 seconds he still holds the Mille Miglia record. This is why the modern-day version of the legendary SLR carries the additional words "Stirling Moss" in its name. As the new SLR Stirling Moss unites the character of the current SLR models with the fascination of the SLR of 1955. The core values of both the historical and the present-day SLR models include an exciting new design, innovative technology, high-class materials displaying perfect craftsmanship, and, above all: a unique driving experience for all the senses.Whilst the 300 SLR earned its spurs on racing circuits the world over, the new member of the SLR family is not designed for the racetrack. Although it sets new standards in terms of technology, performance and excitement – just like its forebears – it is aimed at individuals who have exquisite requirements and nurture very special dreams. Highly puristic concept without a roof or a windscreenRemaining totally true to the specifications of the 300 SLR, the new Silver Arrow's equipment is extremely sophisticated and yet at the same time decidedly spartan, doing without both a roof and side windows. There are just two wind deflectors a couple of centimetres in height to protect the driver and passenger from the airflow. Two air scoops integrated into the bodywork serve as roll-over bars. With this extreme concept the new SLR Stirling Moss is visually very different from all the other vehicles which belong to the elite sports car class.Just like the legendary racing vehicles of yesteryear, the SLR Stirling Moss dazzles with its superlative performance. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and with a top speed of 350 km/h this puristic high-performance sports car denotes completely new dimensions in open-top driving. And not just because of the impressive performance figures; every time drivers take to the wheel of the SLR Stirling Moss their senses are addressed with a previously unheard of intensity, conveying a driving experience in its purest and most sensual form. This automotive thoroughbred thus facilitates the kind of open-air feeling that is utterly unique for a road-going vehicle.Exciting design reminiscent of the SLR racing carsThe SLR Stirling Moss, its entire bodywork made of fine lightweight carbon fibre, represents a stand-alone design concept. Whilst the Mercedes-Benz designers were working on the body of the new SLR Stirling Moss, they were fully aware every single moment that they were creating a vehicle with a top speed of 350 km/h. At the same time this supreme athlete is highly reminiscent of the SLR racing cars from the 1950s, whose design idiom still never fails to impress to this day.The SLR Stirling Moss sports an exciting, pronounced arrow-shaped form and is characterised by an elongated bonnet and a compact, muscular rear. As there is no windscreen, the exterior and interior flow smoothly into one. The bonnet also stretches from its striking tip right down into the interior, giving the vehicle body a distinctly sleek air. Even when standing still, the sports car radiates such dynamism that the observer immediately falls under its spell.Further eye-catching features include two air scoops behind the driver and passenger. They carry additional roll-over bars, also uniting the traditional and the modern. The wings are powerfully contoured. Black-painted ventilation "gills" sitting facet-like on the sides and on the bonnet also cite the legend. A thrilling interplay of light and shadow ensues through the expressive lines, underlining the dynamic overall impression. Exactly as they were on the shining historical example, the side skirts on the new SLR Stirling Moss are also very high. This prompted the designers' decision in favour of folding swing-wing doors which open forwards. The vehicle can be closed by two tonneau covers which are carried in the boot. When both tonneau covers and the doors are closed the SLR Stirling Moss resembles a sculpture. In keeping with the puristic exterior of the vehicle, the interior is also reduced to the bare essentials. Surfaces penetrating each other in the instrument panel and doors make for an exciting atmosphere and resonate perfectionism. A mixture of high-class authentic materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium and fine-quality leather sets the style here. An aluminium plate carries the engraved signature of Stirling Moss and covers the area around the shift lever.Innovative technology and polished aerodynamic conceptDevelopers working on the Stirling Moss were able to fall back on a wealth of experience gathered when producing the SLR Coupé and Roadster, in particular where the technical base was concerned, with its extravagant carbon-fibre design, high-performance suspension and throaty V8 engine. The common denominator uniting the Stirling Moss with the other members of the SLR family is the aerodynamic concept with a closed underbody and a diffuser in the rear bumper for maximum possible downforce at the rear axle – with one difference: the diffuser here is considerably larger than that on the coupé and roadster. Thanks to the high-precision work carried out in the wind tunnel, the SLR Stirling Moss always generates sufficient downforce for extremely safe handling. But the driver can also manually operate the AIRBRAKE in order to increase the contact pressure further, during particularly sporty driving, for example. The AIRBRAKE is also raised during powerful braking at speeds above 120 km/h, so as to stabilise the vehicle even more in such situations, thus facilitating maximum possible deceleration. Limited to 75 units – the SLR models' crowning gloryThe new SLR Stirling Moss is the kind of high-calibre speedster coveted by the sporting gentry and enthusiasts alike. At the same time it is a collector's item which marks the pinnacle of an era and, for the foreseeable future, at least, the final curtain for the SLR. In May 2009 production of the SLR models will cease; only a total of 75 units of the Stirling Moss will be manufactured between June and December 2009, bearing chassis numbers from 1 to 75. Not only does this exclusive vehicle represent the conclusion of the current SLR family; it also serves as a very special thank you to the most loyal of SLR customers, for they are the only ones able to acquire a Stirling Moss.

N Spec Kit for Evo

Japanese tuning house Ings has prepared a kit for the Lancer Evo X consisting of a front bumper and a Z-Power Wing. The bumper houses not only the odd-ified upper intake, it also wears new canards, brake ducts, and intercooler shrouds. The Ing site has little to say about the kit, but it looks to have been tuned on a race-tested car. If you're keen, you can order the bumper here in either fiberglass or hybrid aero, a combination of urethane and fiberglass. It won't be available for a few months, so you'll have to be happy with the pics in the gallery below for now.

Mercedes SLR Mclaren

Mercedes has released a new video showing the SLR Stirling Moss ahead of its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Power comes from a supercharged engine V8 that produces 650 hp (478 kW) allowing the roadster to run from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h). In order to keep the car stable at such high speeds engineers went to work modifying the SLR's body with both historical style and downforce in mind.
Inspired by the original 1950's Mercedes 300 SLR and its legendary driver Sir Stirling Moss, the new SLR bares a striking resemblance to the classic racer. In order to create the remarkable appearance Mercedes neglected to add a roof, side windows, and a windshield. The company also designed two integrated air scoops that also serve as roll-over bars which gives the SLR a unique appearance and signals its racing pedigree.
Only 75 units of the €750,000 SLR Stirling Moss will be produced starting in June 2009, when the last one is built it will mark the end of production of the Mercedes-McLaren SLR.

Mercedes-Benz Split view.

In the future Mercedes-Benz is equipping its luxury class models as the first premium brand with a display screen that allows the driver and front passenger to view two different programs at the same time. While the driver is checking the navigation instructions, the front passenger can sit back and watch a film on the very same display. This is made possible by new split view technology which the Stuttgart premium brand is introducing in the S-Class for the first time.

Mercedes-Benz has integrated the new split view technology developed by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch into the innovative control and display system command, which is centrally located in the dashboard console. Its generously dimensioned, 8-inch (approx. 20 mm) monitor shows a back light active matrix color display (TFT-LCD). This shows two different images simultaneously by placing pixels adjacent to each other. A filter masking the display divides this mixed image in such a way that depending on the seating position, only the pixels making up one or the other image can be seen. As a result, the driver and front passenger can view different programs on the same screen at the same time.

The driver still has access to all the information from the control and display system command on the display, while the front passenger uses the remote control to choose his own entertainment program with DVDs, TV channels or music videos. To avoid distracting the driver with his entertainment program, he also has the option of enjoying the program via headphones. As before, the driver is able to view all the information provided by the command system on the display.

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the new split view technology in the S-Class for the first time in summer 2009.

EMM Marussia First HYBRID of its kind

While EMM, a Russian sportscar company, is pretty sure their Marussia is Russia's first supercar, we know that it's not; the E-GO Revolt is. Nevertheless the Marussia will be the country's first hybrid sports car that looks like a supercar. EMM founder Nikolay Fomenko is a former theatre actor, singer and television news anchor. But it was his stint as FIA N-GT racing champion that got him interested in forming a car company. And so he did.
Although the EMM Marussia will use a 240hp / 179kW 3.5-litre 6-cylinder from Renault/ Nissan for its petrol needs, there's no clarity yet on where the electric hybrid components will come from. However, about 35% of the car will be sourced from Russia.
The company's intention is to achieve a 400km (250 mi) range with the car and use nanotechnology to counter Russia's notorious cold winters which will negatively affect battery performance. A zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of around 5 seconds is thought to be within its grasp.
A host of gadgetry is promised to keep driver and passenger entertained, such as a 4G Yota network capable of 10 Mbps data transfer speeds at up to 120 km/h (75 mph). Also things like Bluetooth, satellite navigation, a 320GB hard drive and DVD screens are on the cards.

Ferrari 612 widebody

It takes a special kind of confidence to modify a new Ferrari. After all, who wants to mess with what many people regard as perfection. However, Imola Racing, a member of the DIMEX Group of Wiesbaden, Germany, specializes in doing exactly that. We've got some photos (but unfortunately, not many details) of the latest tuned Ferrari to roll out of Imola Racing's garages in Germany. This widebody 612 Scaglietti sports a full body kit, monster wheels and a unique paint job.
The body kit includes a new front spoiler and rear diffuser, as well as widened fenders and a tiny rear spoiler. The two-tone paint uses a contrasting color in the body scallops and is reminiscent of a classic Corvette. The lighter gray is also used on the roof panel. Blackout wheels with ultra-low profile tires complete the tuned look. The Imola Racing 612 Scaglietti also includes an upgraded interior, though we don't know if the powertrain or suspension have been modified at all. Imola's mechanical upgrades have generally been exhaust- and suspension-based, so it's a good guess that this 612 Scaglietti has benefitted from some of the shop's expertise in that regard.Source: gtspirit.com via autoblog.nl

Lamborghini LP 710 Audigier (EDOVLimited Edition )

Fastest Lambo ever!

edo competition has just released what they claim to be the fastest Lamborghini ever. The Limited Edition edo Lamborghini LP 710 has a top speed of 224 mph (360 kph). Only five units of the LP 710 will be produced. At the base of the LP 710 is a Murciélago LP 640. After disassembling the supercar, edo tuners make modifications to the body work, engine, exhaust, interior, tires, and wheels to bring the car up to their racing standards. All mods are completed within three months.Surprisingly, the company seems more interested in the design of the car than its power. At the heart of the design is fashion magnet Christian Audigier, who chose the matte black paint for the car. Inside, Audigier embroidered his own name into the seats, while utilizing a different set of fabrics and materials for the seats, door paneling, and center console. World-reknowned artist Marcus Pfeil worked with Audigier to create an airbrush design for the car.
Horsepower, torque, and curb weight is unknown at this time.
Each of the five Limited Edition edo Lamborghini LP 710 production units will be custom made, giving the customer a chance to veto some of the designs and make a more personal choice. If you purchase one, you also get the opportunity to run laps in your new supercar at the oval track in either Papenburg, Germany, or Nardo, Italy. edo will even lend out race driver Patrick Simon to teach you a few tricks for your new car.

Nissan Fairlady Z revealed

The car that the rest of us know as the Nissan 370Z is now on sale in its home market, bearing the familiar Fairlady Z nameplate that it's traditionally worn in Japan.

The updated, retro-modern styling, new 247 kW (337 PS) VQ37VHR 3.7-liter V6 and choice of six-speed rev-matching manual or seven-speed automatic transmissions are the same that we saw at the car's Los Angeles Auto Show debut. The new, more compact body carries styling cues from classic Fairlady models and distinct "Z" badging. Lightening measures such as aluminum body panels keep the weight down, and the new interior uses higher-quality materials including a new "Forte Suede" cloth. Soft-touch materials make the cabin a friendlier place, and the new Fairlady's interior has been optimized for performance driving as well. A factory-installed HDD-based CARWINGS navigation system is available.
On-road performance has been increased. In addition to the lightening measures, the car is more powerful, of course. The groundbreaking new transmissions are coupled to an independent suspension and aluminum-caliper opposed-piston Akebono brakes at all four corners. Nissan's Vehicle Dynamic Control stability control is also standard. The Fairlady Z's home-market pricing ranges from 3,622,500 yen ($38K) to 4,462,500 ($47K) yen, including Japan's consumption tax. Some Japan-specific "performance" specifications that you might not have heard include the Fairlady Z's 95% recyclability rate, and a reduction of interior volatile organic compounds. Nissan expects to sell five hundred units a month in Japan. The Fairlady Z goes on sale today at Nissan dealers across Japan, and weekend sales launch events will be held December 6-7 and 13-14.Source: Nissan

Shelby Claim Upgraded (go 270mph )

Okay, a top speed of 270 mph (434 km/h)? Seriously, who is going to drive that fast?

Still, Shelby Supercars likes to live up to its name. Here they've taken the Ultimate Aero and boosted its boogie by about 15 percent to an astonishing 1287 horsepower (947 kW).

The main factor in the power and performance upgrade is a new aluminum cast engine block, designed in-house, that lightens the load and improves oil flow with its sounder structural integrity.

Also, the Ultimate Aero gets new side intakes with carbon fiber louvers able that draw in about 20 percent more air for much improved cooling. Still, you wonder how this car doesn't just melt before your eyes with that kind of power and friction bursting beneath its frame.

There's a redesigned nose for better aerodynamic flow and a carbon fiber rear spoiler system, the AeroBrakeTM, which deploys upward by 8 inches (20 cm) as you step on the brake pedal for quicker deceleration.

The interior gets a do-over too. A redesigned dash and a cabin outlined by carbon fiber accents are part of the upgrade. They throw in an Azentek PC base info-tainment system too.

No price details available.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M

A little over a week ago we showed off some spy photos of the Mercedes SLC Gullwing. We just got some video in today, and it is starting to make us antsy. Antsy because we want to see the thing completely uncovered!

The Gullwing is being shown outside Arjeplog, Sweden, where temperatures are between -3° C and -16° C, or as low as 3.2° F. Numbers like that dredge up memories of waiting for the school bus in January in Chicago. Unfortunately, my family never took me to school in one of these.
All we know for sure is that the Gullwing should debut in 2010 with anywhere from 550 to 600 horsepower, twin-turbo V8. The engine should pump out about 445 ft-lb of torque with a 7-tronic automatic transmission.
Since the separation with McLaren, Mercedes is going the Gullwing on their own. Although the car will be made exclusively by AMG, McLaren is going to work on their own version as well.Source: WCF

New BMW Z4 Roadster

In the 32 years of the BMW Art Car Collection the car itself has always been the canvas. One artist has decided to reenvision the process by making the car the brush instead.

Using a new BMW Z4 Roadster to bring his idea to life, South African artist Robin Rhode conceived the idea. "This work is an expression of painting in action - my hope is to communicate the power and thrill inherent in the creation of art", the artist said in a press release. "For me, the use of an untraditional paintbrush like a high performance car is a great way to investigate the relationship between emotion, technology and industrial creativity."
On a canvas roughly 200 feet long and 100 feet wide, the car was used to spread red, yellow, and blue paint around the canvas. Although seemingly random, the lines and curves were planned out with extreme attention to detail. Rhode was trying to pay homage to an artist who did a series of paintings for BMW.
"One source of inspiration was the seminal work of Gerhard Richter´s series of paintings ‘Red, Yellow, Blue' made in 1973 for the company headquarters in Munich, Germany", Rhode said.
Titled "An Expression of Joy," the painting was produced at Downey Studios in Los Angeles, which doubles as the location for the U.S. edition of Top Gear. The entire process, from sketch to fingerpaint to storyboard to production, was filmed for use in a new BMW television and viral ad campaign. Jake Scott, most known for music videos, directed the film shoot.
About the experience, Scott said, "It is always a gift for a filmmaker to watch an artist of any discipline work." He is also the son of Bladerunner director Ridley Scott.
You will also be able to see behind-the-scenes photos in an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. The magazine put legendary actor Dennis Hopper behind the lens to document the process.
The driver of the BMW Z4 Roadster is also no stranger to choreographed maneuvers. He was one of the MINI Cooper S stunt drivers on the Italian Job. To get the paint color just right remote-controlled nozzles were mounted near the wheels, with new tires being rotated in and out as new colors were used.
"An Expression of Joy" took roughly 12 hours to complete. Sounds like a fun day's work to us.Source: BMW

Bugatti Veyron Vincero by Mansory

Just in case you have a few million dollars you haven't spent on a Christmas present for yourself yet, we thought we'd let you know that this Bugatti Veyron, modified by Mansory, is sitting on the showroom floor at Prestige Cars in the United Arab Emirates.

There's plenty of online disagreement as to whether this car is a Sang Noir that's been further modified by Mansory, or a Veyron that's been redone to resemble another tuned Bugatti. The only common thread we've heard is that Mansory was involved in the conversion, and that it goes by the name Vincero Limited.
The Mansory Vincero bears some similarities to the Sang Noir special-edition Veyron, and we're not sure how many Vinceros are out there. There are reports of as many as three. Any Veyron is an uncommon machine, of course, but the Mansory Vincero is among the rarest of the rare.
Blackout trim and smoked chrome dominate the high-gloss finish. The front fenders and door panels are chromed, and the hood and engine cover are carbon-fiber. The carbon-fiber elements spark the comparison to the Sang Noir editions. The interior gets black and white upholstery, a common Mansory theme, and features woven seatbacks and cushions in addition to the leather, carbon fiber and suede.
